THE legendary track deeds of the late Grenville Anderson will be honoured with a Production Sedan tribute main event at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway Sunday afternoon, June 11.

Anderson was a Lismore icon who passed away in 2004 as a result of injuries sustained in a crash at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway in the early 90s.

Anderson is the only man with four major category Australian Sedan Championships beside his name.

He is a Lismore icon, well remembered by many fans who witnessed his great drives in the Peter Croke owned Holden Torana at Lismore during the ‘eighties.

Competitors from the local Production Sedan club approached Lismore promoter David Lander with a proposal to conduct a main event in Grenville’s honour this season.

Lander was only too happy to accept their recommendation.

“There are still a lot of fans who come to our track who remember Grenville Anderson and what he achieved not only at our Lismore venue but also in sedan racing throughout Australia,” Lander said.

“He was a very popular driver here and had an immense following. It is very fitting that Grenville Anderson was inducted into the Speedway Australia Hall of Fame some years ago. He certainly deserves that recognition. He was a great driver.”

Anderson was participating in qualifying time trials at Archerfield Speedway, Brisbane, when his car overturned and crashed heavily into the concrete retaining wall.

He sustained serious injuries in the crash and never raced again. He died on May 31, 2004, after battling ill-health following the accident.

Anderson was loved and revered by many followers who admired his track craft that took him to many great wins over the years at Lismore Speedway.

This will be the second attempt to run this race after rain earlier in the season washed out the fixture.

This Sunday (June 11) will be the final meeting of the season and a massive event card has been organised with ten race car divisions programmed.

In addition to the Production Sedan heats and main event, Wingless Sprintcars and V8 Dirt Modifieds also will be featured.

It is a day of family entertainment with kids’ push bike races also scheduled. Children must bring not only their bike, but also a protective helmet in order to be eligible to compete. Face painting for the kids also will be a part of the day’s activities, while the show will conclude with a massive fireworks display at nightfall to not only signal the end of the season but also as part of the Queen’s Birthday long weekend celebrations.
