The date for the appearance of the Speedcar Super Series next season at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway has been changed.

Set down originally for November 18, the national midget event has now been switched to later in the season and will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018.

The schedule alteration is the result of a potential date clash in November with Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway, which like Lismore, has always taken a round of the long-running series.

“This could be a better date for us in March because the series will be entering its final stages and there may well be a number of drivers still in points contention to take the series,” Lismore promoter David Lander said.

“Whichever way you look at it, the March round will be one of the most important of the SSS Championship.”

As the final SSS itinerary has yet to be confirmed, there is every likelihood the Lismore event will possibly be the penultimate round.

In keeping with the long running standards of the Speedcar Super Series and the intense competition that is its trademark, the points are always relatively close among a number of the top runners as the series heads toward the Grand Final.

The SSS is operated by former Super Modified/Sprintcar driver Ken Jenkins who has been at the helm since the SSS was revived in 2005. Its history traces back to the 1997/98 season when, ironically, David Lander introduced the tournament to the national Speedcar scene.

“Lismore also will work well for us,” Jenkins said.

“The Lismore round is always one of the most exciting on the championship trail and it will take on even greater importance next year as the series reaches the championship business end of the season.”

Tentative plans indicate the SSS Grand Final will be held in Sydney during April, 2018.
