WEEKEND SWITCH FOR 2018 100-LAP WINGLESS SPRINTCAR AGP
A scheduling change will now see the annual 100-lap Wingless Sprintcar Australian Grand Prix held as part of a block buster double header two night Australia Day fixture at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway.
The AGP will share top billing for the January 26 and 27 fixture with the New South Wales V8 Dirt Modified Championship which will be decided as a one-night, stand alone event on Friday, January 26.
The Wingless Sprints and V8 Dirt Modifieds will be featured both nights. The Modifieds will race for honours in the Summer Classic on January 27, while the Wingless will contest 100-lap qualifying heats on the Friday night before returning the next night for the 100-lap decider.
Promoter David Lander says he is happy to accept the date change on next season’s calendar after local Wingless club officials suggested a move to the Australia Day weekend from their originally scheduled two nights for the AGP earlier in the month.
With the Australia Day public holiday falling on a Friday in 2018, Lander sees this as a better opportunity for out of town drivers to travel to Lismore for the weekend’s racing.
“I am hoping it will not only increase the car count overall for the Wingless 100 lapper, but also entice more drivers from Brisbane and surrounding out of town areas to travel over the border to race at Lismore on the holiday Friday night and the Saturday,” David said.
The Wingless Sprints and V8 Dirt Modifieds will be featured prominently throughout the season at not only Lismore but the Grafton venue.
The state title for the V8 Dirt Modifieds and the Wingless AGP are two of the major shows on what will be a busy schedule for both divisions this upcoming 2017-18 season.
Meanwhile, David Lander has swamped the respective fixture attractions for the two meetings in March, deleted one race date and added another to his season fixtures in a further reshuffle of the schedule.
The Speedcar Super Series round, set initially for March 17, will now be conducted on March 3, while the V8 Dirt Modified Rumble and Northern Rivers AMCA Classic shifts from March 3 to March 17. The March 3 show will also feature the appearance of the flame throwing Jet Car.
The originally designated January 19 – as part of that weekend’s two-night fixture – has been deleted. The Saturday night, January 20, meeting remains on the calendar and will be highlighted with the running of the 40-lap Production Sedan Summer Sizzler.
The additional date for the 2017-18 season calendar will be May 5 which will bring down the curtain on the racing term when the annual Dunny Derby is held. The racing part of the big variety programme that night will feature a 50-lap main event for Wingless Sprints.
