Wingless ready to rumble in 50 lap half marathon.
Wingless Sprints will take on a 50 lap feature race this Saturday night at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway. Following on from the Wingless 100 lap feature in January this could be called a half marathon for the enthusiastic Wingless Sprint racers.
The usual suspects are prominent in the lineup with Mick Santin, David Eggins, Kevin Willis, Trent Martin , Robert Mazzer and Mason Cattell probably the favourites going in.
Willis currently leads the Lismore Workers Club Driver to America Series with Eggins, Santin, Martin and Cattell all with in 45 points of Willis. With only 4 meetings to be run till the top 10 drivers in the Driver to America points take to the track for the 15 lap finale that will determine the winner , the points battle is getting intense. With a a trip to America and tickets to the Knoxville Nationals in Iowa supplied by Queensland Speedway Spares on the line there is plenty to race for.
Just how intense is the fact that Martin who totaled his car at Brisbane last Saturday in a massive wreck is looking to jump into the seat of the Ray Eggins N123 machine in an attempt to retain his top 5 standing.
Cattell has been the quiet achiver this season with a great start to the year propelling him into 5th in points and he will be looking to bank some solid finishes in the next few meetings after a couple of disappointing results recently.
Just behind the front runners are a group of drivers all right on the pace but yet to lock down consistent top 5 finishes so far this season. On any given night Matt Wright Scott Marsh, Michael Butcher and ex Sydneysiders Michael Gray and Kyle Mock are certainly quick enough to take it to the top 5 and will be looking to do just that this Saturday night.
With 23 Wingless nominated the pressure will be on to qualify for the 20 spots in the 50 lap feaure.
V8 Dirt Modifieds headline the show with Dirt Modified time trials starting at 5.30pm and heat racing at 6pm.
