EARLY START FOR RACING THIS WEEKEND AT LISMORE SPEEDWAY
A record number of entries has led to an earlier than usual start for this coming Saturday night’s (April 1) fixture at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway.
Over 138 entries have been received by race organisers for the meeting, which will be highlighted with the running of the New South Wales Four Cylinder Sedan Championship.
Extra races have been added to the card, with pre-qualifying events for the National Fours’ state title and the Litre Sprints starting at 5PM.
Promoter David Lander is “very pleased” with the nomination list for all categories in which racing for AMCA Sedans, Street Stocks, Junior Sedans, Production Sedans and Wingless Sprints also will be featured on the mammoth 38-event programme.
“This is one of the biggest meetings we have ever held at the Lismore Showground venue as far as competitor numbers and events are concerned,” Lander said.
“The fans will certainly get extra for their admission money this Saturday night and I am very pleased we can put on this meeting. It has been a bit of a headache working out the schedule for the extra events and the only option we came up with was to start an hour earlier than normal at 5PM, he added.”
The increased numbers are also indirectly reflected on the amount of washed out meetings recently which has cut into the regular season schedule of meetings. There has been seven rained out race fixtures this season as the “big wet” hit the east coast in the past couple of months.
It’s also an important night for Wingless Sprintcar drivers still in contention for honours in the Lismore District Workers’ Club-Queensland Speedway Spares Driver to America season premiership.
With the end of the season nearing, every main event is vital in a congested leader board as Kevin Willis tops the series standings, with only 75 points separating the top four on the season premiership points chart.
The April 1 meeting kicks off a very busy fixture list at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway this month with racing set down for April 8, 16 and 29.
Pit gates will open at 2PM, while the public admission entrance opens at the usual time of 3PM.
