THE APRIL 8 fixture at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway has been cancelled in the wake of the worst flooding in the Northern Rivers region for over 40 years.
The Lismore Showground was underwater late last week courtesy of heavy rain in the aftermath of Cyclone Debbie which hit North Queensland the previous weekend.
The state of the ground and surrounding areas at the Lismore Speedway has left track staff with a mammoth task of cleaning up and repairing the damage.
“The ground is just too wet,” promoter Dave Lander said.
“The ground also has copped plenty of damage and we could not possibly be ready for this coming April 8 Saturday night meeting.”
Ground equipment copped the brunt of the gushing water which approached record levels in only a couple of days, such was the speed and ferocity of the water flow from surrounding river catchments into the city of Lismore.
The next scheduled fixture will now be EASTER SUNDAY NIGHT, APRIL 16 when 410 Sprintcar racing returns to the venue.
The night will feature the final round of the NSW/Queensland Easter Sprintcar Trail, while the New South Wales Wingless Sprintcar Championship also will be decided as part of a big, variety programme.
