NATIONAL STARS TO APPEAR AT LISMORE THIS SEASON

BY DENNIS NEWLYN

The upcoming 2017-18 season at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway will again feature some of the top names on the current national scene and one of the highlights will be the Speedcar Super Series round on March 3.

That event promises to bring together an impressive line-up of national stars who will battle for honours in the prestigious long running series.

SSS organiser Ken Jenkins is working closely with Lismore promoter David Lander to ensure a top quality field will be on hand for the Speedcars to strut their impressive stuff on the Lismore Showground bull ring.

Speedcar racing has always been fast and exciting on the tight confines of the Lismore circuit and this season’s SSS round promises to deliver more of the same.

“There is no doubt some of the best racing we have promoted at the Lismore circuit comes from the Speedcar division. When you get some of the biggest names on hand, the calibre of action is as good as anything you would find in America or New Zealand,” Lander said.

“I know Ken Jenkins has a great passion for this series and he has been the driving force for many years. Ken and I go back a long way and I also know he will give me a list of top line competitors for his round at the Lismore circuit.”

Meanwhile, Jenkins has already confirmed four times Australian Champion Adam Clarke is on the short-list of names to again sign a SSS contract for the 2017-18 term.

Other drivers put forward by Jenkins as likely starters are Queensland’s Brock Dean, Michael Stewart (ACT) and Travis Mills (Victoria).

“It is very important to ensure the series contains quality drivers and even though I am yet to finalise the list of contracted competitors, I can assure Lismore fans they will be seeing some of the biggest names in Australian Speedcar racing.

Lander has put the off season to good use and has a new racing surface already packed and bedded down at the Lismore Showground.

The countdown is one in earnest toward the start of the new season, which commences on November 4 with the running of the annual V8 Dirt Modified Lord Mayor’s Cup.

Sixteen nights of racing are set to go under the flag with a host of major events featured incorporating V8 Dirt Modifieds, Wingless Sprintcars, Super Sedans and Production Sedans in addition to all of the regular support categories.

Two highly anticipated events – among many scheduled – are the New South Wales V8 Dirt Modified Championship (January 26) and also the annual 100-lap Australian Grand Prix for Wingless Sprintcars (January 26 and 27). Both these nights will highlight a massive Australia Day super show.

Lander’s other venue, Grafton Speedway, will open its gates for another season of action on September 30. The season opener will be highlighted with the V8 Dirt Modified Clarence Valley Spring Cup and a special appearance by the flame throwing jet car.

Seven meetings are set for Grafton between the end of September and late March, 2018.

With 16 Lismore shows and seven at Grafton, there will be plenty of racing in the northern NSW region over the summer and autumn of 2017-18.
