GRAFTON SPEEDWAY READY FOR ACTION
BY DENNIS NEWLYN
THE lights turn on for another season of action with a big variety programme at Hessions Auto Parts Grafton Speedway, Saturday night, September 30.
There is something for everyone with seven racing categories, while the opportunity to witness a man, strapped to the bonnet of a car, crash through three timber walls of fire, adds plenty of family entertainment, supported with two monster fireworks shows.
“We have a bit of everything for the spectators,” David Lander said.
“There will be plenty of racing laps put down but I also wanted to add something extra for the fans and so have come up with the three walls of fire daredevil act.
“This will be really something and I thank one of our drivers Trent Dhu for performing this stunt for us. Trent has done this a number of times previously so he knows what he is doing.”
The V8 Dirt Modifieds and Wingless Sprints will highlight the race card.
The Modifieds will contest the Clarence Valley Spring Cup main event over 30 laps, while the Wingless Sprints will again race for honours in the opening round of their 2017-18 season premiership.
David Lander took over the Grafton venue several years ago and has given spectators in previous seasons some major events at the circuit in a bid to lift the profile of the long running venue which has its origins dating back to the ‘sixties.
There will also be racing for Street Stocks, Junior Sedans, AMCA Nationals, Production Sedans and Litre Sprints.
David has set seven meetings on the 2017-18 schedule between now and the end of March.
In addition to the opening fixture (September 30) other race dates are: October 28; November 25; December 30; February 10; March 10; March 30.
April 7 is set aside as a rain date.
Gates open at 3PM and first race is at 6 (September 30.)
